Getting interviews in the US comes down to two things: a strong American-style resume and a well-optimized LinkedIn profile. American resumes differ from the traditional Asian format: they're results-oriented, quantified, and concise. Here's how to write one, and how to use LinkedIn to actually get seen.

📌 Writing the resume

✅ 1. Format and structure

The US standard is one page for entry-level, or at most two with 10+ years of experience. No photograph.

🔹 The standard sections:

1. Contact information：
   • Full name
   • Phone number
   • Email address
   • LinkedIn profile URL
2. Professional summary (optional)
   • Two or three sentences on your background and what you're good at.
   • For example: "Data scientist with 5 years of machine learning experience, proficient in Python and SQL, improved business forecast accuracy by 30%."
3. Work experience
   • Take the In reverse chronological order。
   • Use STAR（Situation, Task, Action, Result） , written using this method.
   • Quantify your results: "Increased website traffic by 50% through SEO strategies."
4. Skills
   • Cover both hard and soft skills:
   • Python、SQL、Excel、Google Analytics、Project Management。
5. Education
   • Institution, degree, and graduation year.
   • For example: "University of California, Berkeley (Master of Business Analytics, 2023)"
6. Certifications and projects (optional)
   • For example: AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

• Reach out to relevant people：
  • Connect with former colleagues, classmates, and mentors to widen your professional circle.
  • For example: "Hi [Name], I came across your profile and was impressed by your experience in [Industry]. I'd love to connect and learn from your insights!"
• Join groups：
  • Get involved in industry groups: Machine Learning Engineers, Product Management Community, and so on.
• Post and engage：
  • Share what you know: how you approach data analysis in Python, for example.
  • Comment on others' posts. It raises your visibility considerably.

🔹 3. Job searching on LinkedIn

• Turn on Open to Work so recruiters know you're looking.
• Use LinkedIn Jobs to find suitable roles。
• Message recruiters directly, for example: "Hi [Recruiter's Name], I noticed that your company is hiring for a [Job Title]. I'd love to explore this opportunity and discuss how my experience aligns with the role."
